Went to the movies with Tom

We watched the funny movie Juno in its original version, that is in English (with French subtitles, thank Goodness, cos colloquial English is sometimes hard to understand for Non-Natives) and dined on sweets (gummy crocodiles and foam strawberry sweets). I had a glass of pastis before that despite the interdiction because of my medicines. Fuck it. I felt good. I slept well. I just did not want to wake up this morning, as usual.

What's going on in my country?

French students go on strike. They contest the LRU law concerning the Freedom and Responsibilities of the Universities, also known as the Law on the Autonomy of the Universities.

My university is blocked.

"Participants denounced the privatization of higher education, the risks of the diktat of private companies, an increase in subscription fees, and worsening social inequality. They expressed the fear that the integration of private companies in the governing boards and their financing of the universities would allow companies to fund only the subjects oriented to business needs. This means that subjects like literature, history, sociology, etc., may not be funded and could be suppressed."

World Socialist Website

They may be right, but I am not sure that preventing students from studying is a good solution. Here's what one of my teachers think about this matter:

"I also am sorry - and worried for the students - that the blockade has been extended. I sincerely hope that things will return to normal - or as normal as possible - next week. If it is any consolation to you (it probably isn't, but still...), many of the teachers are also disturbed by the current situation. Even though I agree that a lot needs to be amended in the "LRU" that was passed too hastily in the summer, and in fact participated in various meetings and forums before the summer holidays to discuss it, I believe that the type of action being taken by the students at the moment is counter-productive, and does more harm than good."

Personally I wanna go back to school now!
